Google announced today the inclusion of magazines in Google Book search, making it much much easier (and in many cases possible for the first time) to access magazine articles at many major magazines going back decades. The initiative aims

to help bring more magazine archives and current magazines online, partnering with publishers to begin digitizing millions of articles from titles as diverse as New York Magazine, Popular Mechanics, and Ebony

This is wonderful news, and will go a long way toward helping the survival of important cultural productions for the future.

I wonder if they are doing anything to include defunct magazines in this database. I would imagine that’s where some real gems would turn up.
